Everyone needs a little boost in winter. A trip to the spa would be perfect, but what if the spa were in your own home? It's a very achievable goal with the right bath design.
Bathrooms are no longer just functional. They've become an integrated part of home design, with furniture-style vanities and stylish lighting. A bathroom can be a comforting retreat, with features worthy of any spa, nature-inspired colors, and natural materials. A spa-style bath combines style and function for an atmosphere built for relaxation. Here are five ideas.
1. The Right Shower
What's more relaxing than washing away the stress of the day? There's a reason many people now opt to leave out the bathtub in favor of a big shower. A larger, well-designed shower is the perfect spot to unwind. Don't overwhelm the available space, but go bigger where possible. You could include a steam shower or a shower built for two. Multiple showerheads enhance the experience: a rainfall showerhead with either a handheld or a massaging shower panel. Include integrated storage and a built-in shower seat.

2. A Soothing Bathtub
For many, nothing replaces a soak in the tub. If a bathtub is still important to you, consider a freestanding tub. This style combines form and function and becomes a centerpiece of the design. Whether freestanding or built-in, think about placement. Positioning the tub near a window adds the healing benefit of natural light.

3. Banish Clutter
A clutter-free environment is a much more serene setting for a home spa retreat. Make sure you can keep the room neat and always have towels and necessities accessible. Include integrated storage niches and specialized vanity storage so supplies have a designated home and counters and floors stay clear. We dig into bath storage in our bath storage guide.

4. Warm and Cozy
A cold bathroom and freezing tile floor will spoil the relaxation. Combat the cold with ample heating. Radiant underfloor heating means your first step in the morning is onto a warm floor. A radiator-style towel warmer provides general heat and offers warm towels when you come out of the shower or bath.
5. Lighting and Reflection
Large mirrors open up the space while making it easier to see post-facial. Multi-layered lighting ensures you can see clearly when getting ready, with softer lighting available for a soothing environment. Don't forget lighting targeted to the bath, shower, and vanity.
