The kitchen faucet plays a key role in the basic functioning of a kitchen. Beyond the functional aspect, the faucet plays a lead role in style. The lines, finishes, and mounting style work together with cabinets, backsplash, and countertop. Here's a guide to picking the right faucet.

Where Will It Sit?

Faucets can be mounted in different locations and come in varying sizes. If you're replacing an existing faucet, think about the current style, size, and where it mounts, and consider whether the new faucet will fit the existing space.

Sink-Mounted Faucets

Faucets come in one-, two-, three-, or four-hole varieties, so check how many your sink has. If you're replacing the sink or doing a complete remodel, you have more options to select a sink and faucet combination that meets practical and style needs.

Deck-Mounted Faucets

This style mounts directly to the countertop, often paired with an undermount sink. Make sure you have sufficient space on the countertop, including enough room between the faucet and the wall behind it. You'll have to clean this space, so make sure you're comfortable with the wiggle room.

Wall-Mounted Faucets

A wall-mounted faucet has a stylish appearance, but check how it must be placed relative to the sink and how far the spout extends. Make sure there's space on the wall above the sink (especially if there's a window) and check wall studs and other installation requirements before settling on this style.

Single-Handled

Requires only one hole, leaving a cleaner appearance. Useful when you're carrying heavy pots, hot items, or raw food, since you can operate it with one hand.

Double-Handled

Individual hot and cold handles, requiring at least three holes. More customizable, since you can select handles independently of the spout.

Hands-Free

Useful when you're handling raw meat or your hands are full. They shut off automatically, saving water if anyone wanders off without turning it off. Typically there's a side handle for adjusting temperature, which has to be set by hand.

Material and Finish

Faucets come in chrome, nickel, bronze, brass, and stainless steel, in brushed, polished, hammered, antique, or oil-rubbed finishes. Pick what coordinates with your kitchen. We dig into kitchen sinks in our sink guide.
