If you're considering a bathroom remodel, think carefully about the kind of space you want to create. A primary bathroom is typically where you start and finish your day, get ready for a night out, and decompress in a relaxing bath or shower. The room is much more than where you brush your teeth, and both style and functionality should reflect that.
While you're picking tile, plumbing fixtures, and lighting, consider adding comfortable seating. A perfectly positioned bench or chair takes the design up a level, creating a calm, spa-style atmosphere. Here are five ways to make seating part of a new bath.
1. Be the Star
Is your primary bathroom where you do hair and makeup, not just shower? Go full Hollywood with a glamorous makeup vanity and a seat. Sit comfortably with mirrors and lighting set up for getting ready, with all your tools at arm's reach in custom built storage.
2. A Shower Retreat
Nothing invigorates you like a soothing shower. Make the experience even more relaxing with a built-in seat in the shower enclosure. A custom-built shower bench is stylish and offers a place to sit while enjoying the steam and warmth. It can also hold shower toiletries, but include purpose-built storage shelves or a niche to keep the bench clear.
3. Carve Out a Corner
Even if you don't have space for a full shower bench, consider a built-in corner seat as a place to rest in the shower.
4. Room for Two
A large open, walk-in shower allows space for a bench inside the shower and another just outside. A second person can sit and enjoy the steam, or you have a place to sit while drying off.
5. A Seat With a View
If your bathroom is your oasis, carve out seating that maximizes relaxation. A seat by the window to enjoy the view could be the perfect place to soak up natural light. A cushioned chair, or cabinetry built under the window with storage underneath and a cushioned window seat, both work. If the bathtub is near the window, a wide tub deck offers a brief rest to dry off.
