A well-planned bathroom design includes thoughtful storage. Sleek countertops, luxury walk-in showers, spacious built-in tubs, and beautiful cabinetry all need somewhere to put the bottles, towels, and supplies that come with daily use. Not all bathroom storage is created equally. In addition to a typical vanity, here are five ways to incorporate additional storage.
1. Recessed Storage Niche
A recessed shower niche is a great way to incorporate storage into the shower without adding clutter. Built into the shower walls, niches bring style through custom accent tile patterns and offer storage for shampoo, conditioner, and other products. Use recessed storage elsewhere in the bath too: recess a cabinet into the wall above the toilet for storage that doesn't extend into the room.
2. Corner Storage
Corners are often underused. Get more out of them with corner shelves or a corner cabinet. Corner shelves in the shower hold bottles; a corner cabinet uses unused space without taking up floor space. This is particularly useful in a small or awkwardly shaped bath where every inch counts.
3. Under-Sink Storage
Use the space under the sink to maximum capacity with customized storage. Pull-outs or roll-out accessories hold cleaning products, toiletries, and more in an organized way. An under-sink cabinet is ideal for storing waste baskets or laundry hampers inside the cabinet instead of on the floor.
4. Storage Drawers and Pull-Outs
Drawers maintain a sleek profile and keep stored items organized. In a bathroom, drawers come in varied depths and are ideal for towels, beauty products, and cleaning supplies. Pair drawers with other storage solutions like cabinet shelves or a hamper inserted into a vanity. Pull-out storage is ideal for the small cabinet space between the sink and the wall. Accessorize a narrow pull-out with hooks, shelves, and dividers for smaller items.
5. Built-In Towel Storage
Incorporate towel storage next to the sink, in the shower, and elsewhere. Built-in storage keeps towels accessible while keeping the bath clear of clutter. Include towel racks and hooks throughout: on the back of the door, in shallow racks between the shower and a wall, on the side of a vanity. A towel warmer inside the cabinet makes the bath a real spa-style retreat.
